The basics

What is a DUNS number?

A D-U-N-S number (Data Universal Numbering System) is a unique nine-digit identifier issued by Dun & Bradstreet for a single business. Think of it as an internationally recognised ID for your company: it is how Apple, Google, banks, donors, and global suppliers confirm your Zimbabwean business is real before they work with you.

Getting one from Zimbabwe can be slow and fiddly if you have never done it. We handle the whole registration for you.

Why Zimbabwean businesses need a DUNS number.

If you have run into any of these, a D-U-N-S number is what's being asked for.

Most common reason

Apple Developer Program

Apple requires a valid D-U-N-S number before you can enrol as an organisation and publish apps under your company's name on the App Store.

Android publishing

Google Play Console

New Google Play organisation accounts must verify a D-U-N-S number, so your Android apps ship under your business, not a personal profile.

Procurement

Tenders & RFPs

International tenders, donor procurement, and many corporate supplier forms ask for a D-U-N-S number to verify your business exists.

Funding

Grants & NGO funding

USAID, UN agencies, and global grant-makers routinely require a D-U-N-S number on the application before releasing funds.

Credibility

Business credit profile

A D-U-N-S number opens a Dun & Bradstreet business credit file, the record international partners and lenders check before they deal with you.

Verification

Global suppliers & platforms

Payment processors, SaaS vendors, and overseas distributors often use the D-U-N-S number to onboard and verify foreign businesses.

Common questions

DUNS numbers, answered.

How much does a DUNS number cost in Zimbabwe?

veTech registers your D-U-N-S number for a flat $100. That is a one-time fee with no subscription. Dun & Bradstreet can issue a number for free directly, but the process is slow and easy to get wrong from Zimbabwe; we handle the paperwork and get it right the first time.

How long does it take to get a DUNS number?

Timelines depend on Dun & Bradstreet, but registering through us is far faster than doing it yourself, because we submit your details in the correct format the first time and follow up on the request for you.

Do I need a DUNS number for an Apple Developer account?

Yes. To enrol in the Apple Developer Program as an organisation and publish apps under your company name, Apple requires a valid D-U-N-S number for your business. A personal account does not need one, but a company account does.

Does Google Play need a DUNS number?

New Google Play Console organisation accounts must verify a D-U-N-S number as part of Google's business verification. If you want your Android apps listed under your company rather than an individual, you will need one.

Does my business need to be registered in Zimbabwe first?

Yes. A D-U-N-S number identifies a real, registered business, so you need your Zimbabwean company registration (for example your CR6/CR14) before we can register the number. If you are not registered yet, we can point you in the right direction.

Can veTech also build the app the DUNS number is for?

Absolutely. Most clients who need a D-U-N-S number are publishing an app. We build store-approved iOS and Android apps and can take you from registration all the way to a live listing on the App Store and Google Play.
